The undergraduate program of economic information management was started in 1987. Department of Economic Information Management was founded in the next year. The graduate program of economic information and management was started in 1992. The department was renamed to Department of Information Management in 1998. School of Information was established in 2004.
The school now has 3 undergraduate majors: information management and information system, electronic commerce, and computer science and technology; 2 graduate majors: industrial economics and electronic commerce; 2 doctorate majors: industrial economics and economic information management. Industrial economics was approved to be the National Key Discipline in 2006; Economic information management was approved to be the Provincial Key Discipline of Beijing in 2007. Central University of Finance and Economics was selected as the National Famous University of Electronic Commerce in 2007 due to excellent performance in the undergraduate education of electronic commerce.
There are 3 teaching units as the Department of Information Management, the Department of Electronic Commerce, and the Department of Computer Science and Technology in the School of Information. There is also one computer application teaching experiment center in the school, which was selected as the Provincial Experimental Teaching Model Center of Beijing in 2007.
The school has 27 teachers, among which 5 are professors and 12 are associate professors. 14 teachers have doctorate degrees. One teacher is supported by “Program for New Century Excellent Talents” of the Ministry of Education. Since 2004, the teachers have published more than 250 academic papers in national and international high-level periodicals and conferences, among which more than 50 papers are indexed by SCI, EI, or ISTP; presided more than 50 scientific research projects (research funds amount to 5 million RMB), among which 5 are nation-level and 7 are provincial-level; published more than 20 books, among which 5 are national-level teaching books. The research results have received high praise and are well recognized by the society.
The school has trained nearly thousands of special talents for government, enterprises and institutes, especially in financial industry, insurance industry, accounting industry and IT industry. The students have both deep economic knowledge and IT skills, which makes them popular in many organizations. Now, there are nearly three hundred undergraduate students and nearly one hundred postgraduate students and PhD students in the school.
